It's Finally Over

Four days of testosterone-filled men (mostly) driving really fast cars and trucks around an oval might be exciting for some people, but it gets old to me. I have to say, though, that the final 48 laps or so of the Daytona 500 did have some excitement to them. It's the first 152 I could've done without. Can you say, 'Waste of time?'

For some reason they call it stock car racing. The odd thing is that there's nothing stock about those cars. I mean, I'd like to see those guys all pile into like Geo Metros and do a 500-mile race. Sure it would take forever, but they'd have something to worry about if they wrecked. Only a few would survive an 18-car crash like there was on lap 164 (or so) of yesterday's 500.

Don't get me wrong. The last thing I would wish on anyone is death. Not my style. But at least driving something a little more 'off the assembly line' would be alright to call stock cars. They could even drive corvettes and have a halfway decent race.

I'm just glad it's over for me this time. I'm sure, though, when march rolls around I'll find myself in Darlington covering the race there.

A least you can see the track from the infield there.
